Breathwork
Breathwork refers to intentional breathing techniques designed to regulate the nervous system, promote relaxation, and enhance overall well-being. By focusing on controlled breathing patterns, breathwork helps shift the body and mind from a state of stress or anxiety—governed by the sympathetic nervous system, often referred to as "fight-or-flight" mode—into a state of calm and restoration. This transition activates the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the "rest and digest" response, which supports relaxation, emotional regulation, and mental clarity.
Practicing breathwork can help reduce stress, lower heart rate, and improve focus by fostering a deep sense of awareness and connection between the body and mind. Whether used as a standalone mindfulness practice or in combination with other therapeutic approaches, breathwork is a simple yet powerful tool for de-escalation, self-regulation, and overall emotional balance.
